Evan Rodrigues Game Jersey Quarterback Josh Allen’s old tweets were a major story on Thursday and Allen was asked about them on his way into the first round of the NFL Draft at AT&T Stadium.
Allen did an interview with Suzy Kolber of ESPN about tweets from his David Justice Womens Jersey high school years that featured racially insensitive language. Allen was apologetic about the tweets and said he is a different person than I was six years ago.
Allen will face more questions about those tweets from those inside and outside his future NFL team. We’ll find out what team that will be at some point on Thursday night.
Former Giants quarterback Phil Simms, for example, is bullish on Allen. ESPN draft analyst Todd McShay strongly believes Darnold is the best of the group. NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock likes Mayfield and Allen equally, though isn’t sold on any of the four. Former NFL quarterback and current ESPN analyst Tim Hasselbeck has a conviction about Rosen.

When teams draft a quarterback, they’re betting on the guy as much as they are betting on the talent, Hasselbeck told The Post. As a disclaimer, I’ve never sat across from Josh Rosen or Baker and all those guys and been able to ask them questions. But watching their film, I don’t think that it’s much of a conversation as to who the best prospect is. It’s Josh Rosen.
Jets General Manager Mike Maccagnan said the Jets are already using analytics and expect do do more
Analytics, I think, is something that every team has used. We’re no different, Maccagnan said, via ESPN. We’ve done quite a bit. We’ve used it both on the pro and the college side. As this expands a little bit, there may be other ways, whether it’s coaching or scouting, to make ourselves more efficient or more effective at what we do. We’re like every other team out there. We have an analytics staff and department, and I would think, as things move forward, we’d probably expand and grow that.
If the Jets are relying on analytics to help them determine a quarterback to select with the third overall pick tomorrow night, Baker Mayfield is the outlier whose stats are outstanding, while Josh Allen is the outlier in the other direction, whose stats stink. We don’t know if the Jets are going to end up with Mayfield tomorrow night, but if they do, it’s safe to say the analytics department will approve.
When you sort of put the whole thing together with quarterbacks, you analyze from an ability standpoint, you analyze them from a character standpoint and then you sort of see what you think they can grow into, Maccagnan said. We felt very good about Sam from that standpoint.
